Description

Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp is an incredible dish featuring succulent shrimp cooked in a rich, garlic-infused butter sauce. This recipe captures the vibrant flavors of a tropical food truck experience, finished with a crunchy fried garlic topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ pounds large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ¼ cup fried garlic (for topping)
  • 12 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • Fresh chopped parsley (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Infuse: Add the garlic, butter, and oil to a large skillet over medium-low heat. Let the butter infuse with the garlic for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, without browning the garlic.
  2. Toss: Add cornstarch and smoked paprika to a large ziptop bag and shake to combine. Add shrimp, shake to coat, and set aside. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar.
  3. Remove: When the garlic is infused, remove it to a small bowl, keeping the butter-oil mixture in the skillet.
  4. Cook: Increase heat to medium-high. Add shrimp in a single layer and sauté for 1 minute per side until they curl into a ‘c’ shape. Work in batches if necessary.
  5. Finish: Add the prepared sauce mixture to the skillet and toss to combine. Top with the reserved garlic, fresh parsley, and fried garlic.
  6. Serve: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the shrimp just before serving.

Notes

Ensure the shrimp are dry before tossing with cornstarch for a better coating. The fried garlic can be found in the Asian section of most grocery stores.
