Description

Make the best ground beef tacos with this easy homemade taco meat recipe. Juicy, flavorful, and perfect for quick family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup beef broth or water
  • 8 to 10 small flour or corn tortillas
  • Toppings of choice such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheese, sour cream

Instructions

  1. Step: Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook gently, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Allow it to brown evenly without rushing.
  2. Step: Once the beef is mostly browned, stir in the diced onion. Cook until softened and translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
  3. Step: Stir in tomato paste, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Pour in the beef broth. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer gently for 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Step: While the filling simmers, warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or wrap them in foil and heat in the oven.
  5. Step: Spoon the easy homemade taco filling into each tortilla. Add your favorite toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

For deeply flavorful tacos, allow the beef to brown properly before adding other ingredients. If you prefer saucier meat, add a splash more broth during simmering. Rest the filling for a few minutes before serving to let flavors settle.
