Description

Easy Moo Shu Chicken is a delightful dish that brings the flavors of Chinese cuisine right to your dinner table, featuring tender chicken and crisp vegetables wrapped in soft pancakes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast (or thighs), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded green cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • ½ cup sliced mushrooms (shiitake or button)
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 8 moo shu pancakes or flour tortillas
  • Optional garnishes: sesame seeds, additional green onions, or cilantro

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine sliced chicken, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Toss well and let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the skillet. Stir-fry until the chicken is fully cooked and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Toss in Vegetables: Add the shredded cabbage, carrots, and mushrooms to the skillet. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes, ensuring the veggies remain crisp.
  6. Combine the Sauce: Pour in the hoisin sauce and mix well with all ingredients, allowing it to heat through.
  7. Warm the Pancakes: In another pan or microwave, warm the moo shu pancakes (or tortillas) for about 30 seconds until pliable.
  8. Assemble: Remove the skillet from heat. Spoon the chicken and vegetable mixture onto the center of each pancake.
  9. Wrap: Fold the pancakes over the filling to create a wrap. You can serve them open-faced or folded.
  10. Serve and Enjoy: Optionally, garnish with sesame seeds or additional green onions before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute chicken with tofu or tempeh. For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce and a certified gluten-free hoisin sauce.
