Description
This date caramel recipe transforms pantry staples into a rich, glossy amber spread with sea salt crystals. It’s perfect for health-conscious dessert lovers, offering a quick and wholesome sweet fix for family-friendly home cooking.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups Medjool Dates, pitted
- 0.5 cup Hot Water
- 0.5 tsp Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 tbsp Coconut Oil or Unsalted Butter
Instructions
- Prep Dates: If your dates feel firm, soak them in very hot water for 10-15 minutes, then drain thoroughly.
- Blend Ingredients: In a high-speed blender or food processor, combine the pitted dates, 0.5 cup hot water, sea salt, vanilla extract, and coconut oil or unsalted butter. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Adjust Consistency: Check consistency after blending. If too thick, add more hot water (1 tablespoon at a time), blending after each addition until desired smooth consistency is reached.
Notes
Use Deglet Noor dates if Medjool are unavailable (may need longer soaking). Adjust water for desired thickness. For a richer flavor, toast dates lightly for 5 minutes at 350F (175C) before blending. To save time, use pre-pitted dates. Flavor boosters include cinnamon, orange zest, espresso powder, or almond butter. For grainy caramel, continue blending; if too thin, chill or add more dates; if too thick, add more hot water slowly. A sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top offers extra crunch and visual appeal.
